Backstitch

Arm

Make 2.

Rnd 1: With white, ch 15, join to form ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around, do not join. (15 sc)

Rnd 2: Sc in each sc around.

Rnds 3–9: Rep rnd 2. At end of rnd 9, sl st in next st. Fasten off.

Rnd 10: Join really red in first sc, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in first sc. Fasten off. (15 sc)

Rnd 11: Join dark leaf in first sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as beg ch-1, [sc dec in next 2 sc] 7 times, join in first sc. (8 sc)

Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in same sc as beg ch-1, 2 sc in each rem sc around, join in first sc. (15 sc)

Thumb

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sc, leave rem sc unworked, do not join. (5 sc)

Rnd 14: Sc in each of next 5 sc, join in beg sc. Leaving 6-inch end, fasten off. (5 sc)

With tapestry needle, weave end through rem 5 sc, pull tightly to close and secure end.

Mitten

Rnd 15: Working in rem unused sts of rnd 12, with Thumb on right-hand side of work, join dark leaf in first sc to left of Thumb, ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, sc through bottom of Thumb, do not join. (9 sc)

Rnds 16 & 17: Rep rnd 2.

Rnd 18: [Draw up lp in next st, insert hook in next st, yo, draw lp through st and 2 lps on hook] 4 times, sl st in last sc. Leaving 6-inch end, fasten off. (5 sl sts)

With tapestry needle, weave end through last 5 sl sts, pull tightly to close, and secure end.

Scarf

Row 1: With really red, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2–74: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At end of row 74, fasten off.

Scarf Fringe

With dark leaf, cut 16 lengths, each 5 inches long. Holding 2 lengths tog, fold in half, insert hook in st, draw lengths through at fold to form lp on hook, draw cut ends through lp on hook, pull gently to secure. Join Fringe in each st on each short end of Scarf. Wrap Scarf around Snowman’s neck and knot.

Finishing

Sew 3 buttons evenly sp down front of Snowman’s belly.
